Wigan. Lord, it’s all over.

Last night Liverpool managed to lose 1 – 0 to Wigan in a crucial match building up to this season’s finalĂ©. During the prematch Rafa was harking on about needing to keep it 100% success for every single remaining game. Kuyt had his own agenda as he passed the ball directly to Boyce in their attacking third, and he had little else to do with the run of play. Rodallega pushed the volley to the back post across the face of helpless Reina for the only goal in the game: Boyce given the assisst for taking the initiative with the cross immediately after being given the early birthday present from Dirk..

Torres missed a volley opportunity from a tight angle at 2 or 3 yards, Gerrard blasted one high into the stands from outside the box and scuffed one well wide from inside 6 yards. This isn’t the Liverpool we were promised since the defeat at Reading, but I still believe. Rafa: if you take us to the champions league then I take it all back. We’ve got City away and Chelsea at home before the end of the season, though, so we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed.

Highlights. (Not that there was much to see).

Carragher’s in a bit of a stick with only a year left on his contract and zero communication on the contract renewal front; it’d be sad to see the roadblock move on, but the clock is ticking. For me, this information brings both good and bad news.

For the good side of things I’m looking forward to Carra coming back and managing for us. If we lose any more games this season I don’t see Rafa avoiding the noose, and Mr Centre-Back has always told the press about his desire to manage the red men.

On the other side I was astonished to have my greatest fears confirmed whilst browsing info for his career thus far:

He has been a mainstay of the side this season, with only midfielders Dirk Kuyt and Lucas Leiva making more Premier League appearances for the Reds.

RAFA?! What the bloody hell is this? Sooner or later he may look back at his days of insisting Lucas be on the pitch and regret the forcing a bit of Brazil into the squad. Last night’s game was full of floppish mis-control and passes awry from this pair of thundering saps, a perfect summary for the season.

We’ll stick by your side until the end, lads, but come on. Give us something to sing about.
