Shotgun is a term used to denote ones quickfire claim to something that is freely available to multiple present parties (the last beer, a turn on the playstation). It is widely known as being specific to the claim of the front passenger seat of a car for an up-coming journey.
Bagsy is the anti-gun. If one would like to opt-out as quickly as possible, then bagsy would be a solid shout. Bagsy is essentially an elderly version of shotgun in that it began as a claim for something.
There are two anomolies befitting the ShotgunBagsy clash. They are as follows:
Either term may be used as it’s opposite intention by simply (a) changing the intonation in order to convey either desire or aversion, or (b) using a well placed “not” following whichever term (“shotgun not!”).
One must never confuse the relevant term in social situations. (Eg)
Coach: “Who wants to play in goal?”
Inexperienced ShotgunBagsy participant: “Shotgun not!”
Rest of team: “Bagsy!” “Bagsy.. bagsy!” “BAGSY!”.
